Durmitor Ring from Brezna

This is not a road to rush. Its value lies in the changing landscape, from the Piva plateau and the village of Trsa to high passes, limestone peaks, the Sušica Canyon and open views towards Durmitor. Unplanned short stops often become the most memorable part of the day.

Durmitor is protected as a national park and inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List. The Ring offers an accessible introduction for guests who want to experience the scale of the mountain without committing to a demanding hike.

Leave early and avoid combining the Ring with another major activity. From Brezna, travel towards Plužine and the Piva plateau, then join the loop in the direction best suited to current road and weather conditions.

Allow time for Trsa, Pišče, Todorov Do, Sedlo Pass and several safe viewpoints. Žabljak can provide a longer break before continuing the loop or beginning the return journey.

The route is paved but frequently narrow, winding and unguarded. Drive more slowly than the distance suggests, use passing places carefully and never stop on a blind corner for photographs.

Conditions are generally most reliable from late spring to early autumn, but dates alone do not guarantee an open road. Snow, fog and sudden weather changes are possible at altitude outside winter. In colder months, only plan the route with reliable local confirmation that the road is passable.
